I loved this short story and am tickled that it was written as an interlude between novels. Very clever because it connected the novels but gave us a glimpse of Brooklyn Wainwright's family life.

Brooklyn is spending time off with her Mother and Father at their home in Sonoma County. Brooklyn's Mother is asked to help clean out a home of her friend, who has just passed away. The friend was a agoraphobic and the house borders on the disease of Hoarding. Although the house is built within outside walls of 6' high concrete, the ladies find beauty within.

Brooklyn is there for her pick of books. The husband, Bryon has given them their choice and there is a complete set of Jane Austen that just needs some care.

As Brooklyn begins teaching her class on Book binding, repairing etc. a student finds a letter within the pages of one of the Jane Austen books. What the letter says causes Brooklyn and her family great confusion and some discomfort.

This is a mystery of a different sort for Brooklyn to solve.

I loved having the other family members involved. I enjoyed seeing Brooklyn's relationship with her best friend evolve. This book was a great bridge between books and a wonderful way to keep us up to date as we eagerly await the new novel.

I love Kate Carlistle! This bookbinding 'cozy' mystery series inspired me to make a book and learn some bookish art. Thank you Kate Carlisle.
This ebook by Kate Carlisle does not go very deep in any way. I felt as though I was skimming the author's basic outline. Compared to her other books that I have read, this one was shallow and I felt it did not really 'say' anything. The true cause of the sister's death was mentioned in one sentence when it is a devastating diagnosis today. Brooklyn's class was the only beneficial part. I actually learned some aspects of bookbinding.
Kate Carlisle has done it again! The Bibliophile Mysteries is a set I'm working on owning. In 'Pages of Sin,' the reader is kept guessing as to what could have happened to cause the death, was it really a suicide, and could it have been prevented? I was surprised at the ending because I didn't see it coming. It usually spells danger if one male is involved with more than one female/sisters/family or if one female is involved with more than one male/brothers/family (don't want to give it away). You won't regret reading 'Pages of Sin' by Kate Carlisle.
Kate Carlisle is a wonderful writer and teacher. I have learned so much about book binding, cooking, and wine. I personally do not drink but, it was interesting. She is a five star lady and writer. If you haven't read her books I challenge you to do so.

Kate Carlisle is a master at drawing the reader into the lives of her central character, Brooklyn Wainwright, her family and friends. Brooklyn leads a very interesting life restoring books, getting involved in murders and ultimately seeking out the truth. However, there are a lot of references to “cleansing ceremonies”, the commune that Brooklyn’s family is involved with and other hippie history.
If you love old books and a good murder mystery, I highly recommend the Bibliophile Mysteries and the Fixer-Upper Mysteries.
Brooklyn has the opportunity to get some books for the class she is teaching from her mother’s friend’s house. The friend has died and husband wants to clear some of his wife’s belongings removed. Here is where the mystery begins when teaching her class, Brooklyn’s students come across letters inside a series of Jane Austen books.
How and why were the letters there and did the owners realize what they meant.
After Wanda Frawley’s death, rare book expert Brooklyn Wainwright receives a box of Wanda’s old books, which include a copy of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE that contains a very interesting letter addressed to the deceased’s spouse. In it, Wanda’s sister professes her love for Wanda’s husband. Soon, other pieces of correspondence are found between the covers, hinting at sordid secrets and murder.
This is a good bridge story that focuses on Brooklyn’s family. It was a relatively easy read, although I had to look up some archaic words in the dictionary. It gives you a taste of the series without the full-bodied flavor.
